In Marvel's new film, "The Eternals," Hayek's character is an immortal who was worshipped by the ancient Inca.
Marvel has just announced the cast of it's newest band of heroes, The Eternals - and Salma Hayek will play the mother of them all.
"Estoy muy emocionada," wrote Salma on Instagram.
The Eternals are, "a group of immortals who have been on Earth for 35,000 years," said Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige at San Diego Comic-Con. Created by The Celestials, the Eternals were sent to earth to protect humanity from The Deviants - and Salma's character, Ajak, is their leader.

In the comics, Ajak was worshipped by the Inca as the god Tecumotzin. Wearing a suit inspired by indigenous mesoamerican culture, Ajak can fly, teleport, and is nearly impossible to injure.

In addition to Salma, the film, slated for release in 2020, has diverse and star-studded cast including Angelina Jolie, Kumail Nanjiani, Don Lee, Walking Dead's Lauren Ridloff, and Game of Thrones' Steve Madden.
